Compliance Requirements

Before your application goes live there are a few points it must cover to comply with UK Gambling Commission legislation. The following are required for any partner to adhere to if they want to provide any form of betting with William Hill through their products.

Later on in the process for approving your app to go live you will be asked to provide us with specific screenshots of your app and also undergo security testing.

Note that registration, deposit and withdrawal must be completed through William Hill pages to ensure both consistency and automatic incorporation of any future changes.
More information here: Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards | August 2009 and License Conditions and Codes of Practice.

Warn the user that underage gambling is an offence.

Users of your app must be warned that under-age gambling is an offence. An icon and links to William Hill’s age verification policy must be incorporated into every page of the app on which customers access William Hill. Registration must be completed through William Hill pages.

Copy required in your UI:

'Underage gambling is an offence' and the 18+ icon

  • Responsible gaming

    • Ensure the user can set a deposit limit

Customers must be able to access their William Hill account from your app to impose gambling limits if required.

This must be completed through William Hill pages, on registration, deposit and at any point in time thereafter. Have in mind that a 'no limit’ setting cannot be the default setting and at least 24 hours (cooling off period) must elapse between the time the user requests an increase on the limit and the time the increase takes place.
      More information

    • Ensure the user is aware of how long they have been gambling
Time must be clearly displayed to the user in-app. The application or web page must display the time of day if the user's device clock is obscured when the application or web page is open.

  • Provide the user with quick access to information about responsible gambling

Information must be made readily available to customers on how to gamble responsibly and how to access information about, and help in respect of, problem gambling. This information should be made readily available, not just to potential problem gamblers, but to all users on every page of the app on which customers access William Hill.
Copy required in your UI and link to more information about Responsible Gaming: 'William Hill is committed to supporting Responsible Gambling.'

In addition, provide separate links to the following third party responsible gambling sites:

http://www.gambleaware.co.uk/

http://www.gamcare.org.uk/

https://www.gamblingtherapy.org/

  • Display William Hill licensed status to the user

William Hill’s licensing status, licence number, a link to the GC website, 18+ signage, and links to responsible gambling must be displayed on every page of the web/app on which customers access William Hill.

The most effective way to achieve the above is to display a footer with links on each page of the app.  An example of this can be seen on our native app.

Copy required in your footer and links:

William Hill is operated by WHG (International) Limited a company registered in Gibraltar. William Hill is licenced by the Gambling Commission  (Number: 000-039225 R-319373-001) for customers in Great Britain, and licenced by the Gibraltar Government and regulated by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner (RGL no. 034 & 042) for all other customers.
The registered office of William Hill is at 6/1 Waterport Place, Gibraltar, with registered company number 99191. William Hill is a registered I.B.A.S. bookmaker.  Underage gambling is an offence.

  • Enable the user to easily see their current balance

Always provide the users of your app with easily accessible information about their current balance. This means that all pages used for betting and any pages/screens used to move money to and from accounts or between products must display the customer’s current account or product balance. Where this is not practical or possible due to design limitations of the UI, a direct link must be provided.

  • Enable the user to clearly understand and see on their screens the amount of their transactions

The content of the bet and amount of money being gambled must be clearly visible to the user before they commit to gamble.

  • Ensure your app displays rules of games/lotteries and the likelihood of winning to the user clearly and the games you run are fair

Before users commit to gambling on every lottery, virtual game and virtual sports event, a link to William Hill rules must be made available. This link must be present on every William Hill page that offers betting on a lottery, virtual game or virtual sports event.

A game description and details of margin, RTP and likelihood of winning must accompany every lottery, virtual game and virtual sports event.

Random number generation and game results must be acceptably random with statistical analysis using generally accepted tests and methods of analysis. Also, games and events must be implemented fairly and in accordance with the rules and prevailing pay outs (where applicable) as they are described to the users. Users should be provided with full results for every lottery, game or virtual event by presenting a link to the gambling rules on every William Hill page that offers betting on a lottery, virtual game or virtual sports event.
Copy required in your UI and links: 'Virtual Rules & Results'

  • Ensure the user is clear that bets are accepted in accordance with William Hill rules

The electronic receipt issued for each transaction must include a footer that includes the William Hill name, contact details and the following copy and links:
‘All bets are accepted in accordance with William Hill Betting Rules. as published on this site.  Need Help? Contact Customer Services’.

  • Make the user aware of information available when betting on live events

Inform users that ‘live’ TV or other broadcasts are delayed and that more up-to-date information may be available elsewhere by presenting a link on every William Hill page that offers live betting.
Copy required in your UI and links: ' In-play information subject to delay.  (Rules)'

  • Ensure the games you run are fair

  • Provide the user with easy access to Account Information and Betting History

Users must have easy access to their account and gambling history at any time during the gambling/betting process. This link is required to be present in your product's UI.

  • Users must be informed of the William Hill policy regarding service interruptions

Users must be informed on what to expect in case of IT or hardware failure and that they will be treated in the most fair manner. This is available through the Terms & Conditions link on the licensing footer.
